1. Can you tell us a little about your book?

The Adventures of Captain Glucose is a type 1 diabetes graphic novel. It is a fictional romance and action novel that also raises awareness of Type 1 Diabetes. Captain Glucose, also known as Emma, is a superhero who saves people from diabetes ketoacidosis crises while also being a type 1 diabetic who is still discovering herself in the midst of it all.

2. Is there a specific event that inspired this story or was this an out of the blue idea?

It was an out of the blue idea.

3. What got you writing in the first place?

I’d been seeking for a good book that would explain Type 1 Diabetes and how to manage it for a long time. However, I was unable to locate any—only textbooks and scholarly papers. There are lots of books on T1D, but they are all textbooks—not anything kids my age or anybody without Diabetes would consider reading. So I decided to write my own!

4. What was your impression of your first draft when you read it?

It was fantastic. Of course, it needed some tweaking, but I was pleased with my job.

5. Which part of your story connects the most with you? Why?

When the protagonist struggles with her health–both physical and mental–and is unable to balance her life, everything falls apart. I went through that for a long period as well!

6. What makes your book the one to read?

It is the ideal book for everyone who wants to learn about diabetes while still being entertained. My book contains deaths, drama, a love triangle, awareness, and much more!

7. What was the best advice you got while writing?

Just to be myself!

8. Who’s your all-time favourite author? Which book of his/hers made you fall in love with them?

I don’t have a particular favourite author. I enjoyed reading all novels, and some of them awed and inspired me.

9. What is your evergreen tip to the writers out there?

Just be yourself! Keep it simple. Let the ideas flow!

10. What was your hardest scene to write?

The one in which Harry dies. It took some thought to come up with a way to let go of one of my favourite characters.

11. Do you have another plot brewing?

None as of now.
