Spam calls will be stopped from today? Telecom companies in action on TRAI’s deadline

If you have been troubled by spam calls, then today can be a relief for you. Because telecom companies can make big announcements to stop spam calls. Under this, spam calls and messages can be controlled. Telecom regulator TRAI has given the companies a deadline of May 1. This, it will help in preventing fraud on the telecom network.

Telecom companies can make a big announcement

According to TRAI’s deadline, from today, telecom companies have to start AI and ML-based filters. Vodafone had already started the pilot of Sandbox. Soon after this, it will be operational in the entire network. Airtel and RJio can also make big announcements in this direction soon. BSNL, the government company in the sector, is also preparing. TRAI can issue an official order today.

These discussions and decisions were taken in the TRAI meeting on March 27.

To stop UCC i.e. Unsolicited Commercial Calls, AI Air ML was asked to be used. To start this, the deadline of May 1 was fixed. The use of Sandbox was discussed, and how it will be used was also reviewed. Telemarketers and PEs were instructed to discontinue unused headers and templates within 30/60 days.

In the meeting, the complaint received in MHA, Cybercells was approved to be shared with all the telecom companies. All the companies will share the numbers of Spammers / Scammers which have come to their notice on a common platform. So that all operators can take appropriate action to keep their consumers safe. There should be preparation to bring all Voice Based Telemarketers on DLT i.e. Digital Ledger Technology-based platform so that it is easy to monitor and stop them. In the meeting, it was also asked to issue a new serial number for such services.

Rule on unwanted calls-messages

TRAI issued regulations under the UCC Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation (TCCCPR), 2018 on July 19, 2018, to rein in UCC. These rules came into force on February 28, 2019. These are being followed with the support of all Telecom Service Providers (TSPs). According to TRAI, customers can block all types of commercial communication (calls and SMS). Apart from this, if you want, you can choose to block one or more categories from Banking, Financial Products, Insurance, Credit Cards, Real Estate, Education, Health, Consumer Goods and Automobile, Communication, Broadcasting, Entertainment, IT, and Tourism.
