Latehar- A press conference was organized on 18.04.2023 under the chairmanship of District Transport Officer Mr. Santosh Singh for the prevention of road accidents and death due to it. While giving information in the press conference, it was told that in the year 2021, there has been a total of 92 deaths in total 112 road accidents in Latehar district, and in a total of 127 road accidents in Latehar district in 2022, a total of 106 deaths have occurred. Where there has been an increase of 15 road accidents and 16 deaths in 2022 as compared to 2021.
These figures are worrying because the main reason for the increase in road accidents is the speedy and negligent operation of vehicles. There is a disregard for traffic rules by the drivers, for which the drivers need to drive vehicles with road safety rules.
Following are the details of road accidents that occurred at some major police station levels in Latehar district in the year 2022, where the maximum number of road accidents occurred in Latehar. Police station – 27 accidents 19 death, Chandwa police station – 22 accidents 17 death, Balumath police station – 19 accidents 18 death, Manika police station – 18 accidents 17 death, Barwadih police station – 15 accidents 12 death. 80% of the total road accidents occurring in Latehar district have occurred in the above-mentioned 5 (five) police station areas. For the prevention of road accidents, many works are being done at the state and district level so that road accidents and deaths can be reduced.
Road safety-related counseling was given to a total of 2648 drivers who violated traffic rules in the Latehar district in the year 2022. In the year 2022, 1169 students in 45 schools were made aware of road safety.
In the press conference, detailed information about Hit and Run and Good Samaritan was given. After April 25, an awareness campaign and special vehicle checking campaign will be conducted under the special strategy. In the press conference, suggestions were sought from all journalists by the District Transport Officer, on which assurance was also given by the District Transport Officer to work. Sub-Divisional Officer, Latehar Mr. Shekhar Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Chief) Mr. Kailash Karmali, Motor Vehicle Inspector Mr. Sunil Kumar, and journalists from print media and electronic media were present at the press conference.
