About The Author: Formerly I was Professor and Head of the Department of Botany, Visva-Bharati (A Central University). Presently I am working as Professor of Environmental Science, Netaji Subhas Open University. After completing my Ph. D. at Calcutta University, I joined Department of Botany, Visva-Bharati as a Lecturer and served this university for 35 years. Apart from teaching at UG (Hons.) and PG level, I guided 10 PH.D. theses and published 75 research and review articles in peer-reviewed national and international journals. I was the recepient of Swedish Institute Guest scholarship in 1998.
1. Can you tell us a little about your book?
This edited book contains thirty articles on various topics on Biodiversity, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics. This is an unique combination of interrelated subjects under one cover. The topics are included in the Life-Science syllabai of Indian universities. Articles included concern molecular aspect of biodiversity, proteomics, non-coding RNA and gene regulation, adaptive immune receptor, recent achievements in plant and fungal biotechnology, intellectual property right, bioprospecting etc. Articles are written in lucid language explaining fundamentals of the related subject. Young faculty members will find these articles suitable for teaching.
2. Is there a specific event that inspired this story or was this an out of the blue idea?
The book is the resultant product of experiences gained by the teachers while teaching and interacting with the students.
3. What got you writing in the first place?
To fulfill the fundamental requirements of the students and upgrade their knowledge in various modern topics.
4. What was your impression of your first draft when you read it?
The articles are resultant product of theoretical and practical research and teaching.

Students of Life-sciences will find this book very useful in clarifying their basic concept and gather state of the art information.
6.What was the best advice you got while writing?
To meet the requirement of students.
7. Do you have another plot brewing?
Science is ever growing and new scientific findings are reported in quick succession. However, students find it very difficult to appraise them of all information generated as a result of scientific research. Books of this kind must be revised in regular sequence. I have a plan to revise this book next year. Keeping the volume same, articles will be revised with new information and one or two articles will be replaced by new ones.
