Russia Warns of ‘Catastrophic’ Consequences After Trump’s Threat to Bomb Iran

Moscow Condemns U.S. Threats Over Iran’s Nuclear Infrastructure

Russia has cautioned against any military action targeting Iran’s nuclear sites, warning of “catastrophic” consequences after former U.S. President Donald Trump threatened Iran with “bombings like never before.” In an interview with International Affairs, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov criticized Washington’s approach, stating, “We consider such methods inappropriate; we condemn them, and we see them as an attempt to impose (the U.S.) will on Iran.” Despite the escalating tensions, Moscow has refrained from directly attacking Trump’s stance.

Trump Warns Iran: ‘Bombings Like Never Before’

During an interview with NBC News, Trump reiterated his hardline stance against Tehran, warning that if Iran fails to reach a nuclear agreement with Washington, it would face unprecedented military action. “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing—bombing the likes of which they have never seen before,” he declared.

Since returning to power, Trump has reinstated his “maximum pressure” policy on Iran, causing the Iranian currency, the Rial, to plummet.

Iran Rejects Direct Talks With U.S. Over Nuclear Programme

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian dismissed direct negotiations with the United States regarding the country’s nuclear programme, marking Tehran’s first official response to a letter from Trump to Iran’s Supreme Leader. Pezeshkian confirmed that Iran responded via Oman but left the door open for indirect negotiations. However, progress remains stalled since Trump unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal in his first term.

IAEA Raises Concerns Over Iran’s Nuclear Advancements

While Iran insists its nuclear ambitions are peaceful, a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in February revealed that Tehran has accelerated the production of near weapons-grade uranium. The UN watchdog’s findings have fueled global concerns over the potential military dimensions of Iran’s nuclear activities.
