REFLECTION EP – SHERYL

A Multi Genre Record Producer & Open Format DJ

Sheryl is a Mumbai, India-based Multi Genre Record Producer & an Open Format DJ.

Sheryl has been in a scene since 2007. And we are talking about her today as Sheryl has freshly released an EP (extended play) , a shorter version of a music album, which she says is the beginning of her new era, i.e, SHERYL 2.0. So let’s dive into details.

Interviewer: REFLECTION – EP, what is it all about?

Can you tell the audience in details about the idea, a concept behind the EP and

what was the entire process of making.

Sheryl : As you all know reflection is the production of an image by or as if by a mirror, basically a MIRROR IMAGE.

So the idea / the moodboard behind the EP is to tell a tale of a secret love affair between two people, who are like soul mirrors to each other.

It is a very intriguing story, so I decided to create an art out of it so that it stays up there forever.

The EP consists of 4 tracks in total.

So it all started with one most awaited recording session in monsoon 2023 with one of my best friends from post graduation collage Puja who is into singing. I always wanted to do this kind of version, a cover song remake in techno style back then in 2011.

So here we go, we did Daaru Desi, a track from the movie Cocktail (2012). To relive the moments back from the days. As it’s a friendship themed song.

Production wise it was a musical collaboration between DJ Sheryl  & DJ veronika, as Veronika was coming up with a Friendship Day bootleg album, & I wanted to submit a track.

It was also mine and Puja’s birthday week so why not just do it ?

Being all 3 of us a LEO, we did what we love to do. An execution of a wild thought !

But, something else also happened when we hit the recording session for Daaru Desi,

Puja thought of covering one more track, which is sung by Rihanna.

Stay from Rihanna’s 7th studio album Unapologetic (2012) again to relive as we both love the Barbadian singer too much. Which I re-produced again in Techno.

You see the pattern here ? I am a techno head, if you ask my fav genre.

And I always enjoyed playing techno & house music whenever I got an international DJ residency.

Being here in India & when it’s about masses, I have a tag of a commercial DJ by the people. No matter how much I write on my resume that I am an open format DJ, the content out there on my name on all digital platforms is majorly commercial, because as in ratio wise if i see i get more of commercial gigs booked. And hence, i decided to throw out a TECHNO EP.

Being an art student throughout my college life. I cannot function without a moodboard if I touch a project. And having an entrepreneur mindset i always want to deliver a project which will be a wise decision thru business point of view as well.

So I sequenced the tracks, which exactly tells the untold love story.

  1. Daaru Desi (Cocktail) – Intoxicated friendship.
  2. Stay (Rihanna) – Failing to resist true love.
  3. Meri Jaan (Gangubai Kathiawadi) – portrays flirtatious relationship.
  4. Set Fire To The Rain (Adele) – Shows contradictory elements of a relationship.

Track number 3 & 4 were impulsive decisions too. First I thought of making tracks around original acapella. But then I was like, SHERYL NO ! Continue what you started in the first place, and if you can have a vision of it, then it already exists in an alternate universe.

It’s an achievable thing, go for it. So I made a call to an old friend of mine Coral Bhamra for track 3 who is a multi-tasker, a singer, a trained dancer, and an actor. She got on board in a single call, and we hit the studio very next day.

Call it luck, but the track got selected for a reprise version release on Saregama Music.

Track 4 was a difficult one, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea to cover Adele. So I got on board an old friend again, Hebzy whose voice I have admired always, she was a lead singer of a metal band back then.

That’s all the tea I have for you guys !

Hope you all understand the lyrics of all tracks and notice the easter eggs in the video.Stay tuned for some Original compositions, Hindi official remix’s, And some techno bangers.
