Energizing the rural villages with solar energy

Kalakrai is an ancient village in the Maval taluka of the Pune district, renowned for its terrain and difficulties. Several articles have been broadcasted, highlighting the problems villagers face daily. Yet no one has come up with any solution to their problem. The village is, based on a mountain, so the villagers have to climb 5km from the base village, mograj. Due to the lack of road connectivity, residents in the village experience difficulties with water, electricity, and overall infrastructure. Women travel almost 1 km on the rocky route to get a few buckets of water, and they repeat this cycle of up and down more than 5 to 6 times a day. During Pulse-Polio vaccination drives and other vaccination campaigns, villagers walk 5 km to reach the nearest health center in neighboring Karjat, Raigad and located 5km away.

As soon as the NGO Chirag Rural Foundation and Green India Initiative Private Limited heard about the village, they decided to visit and understand the current situation. After doing the technical survey and studying the problems, Mr. Sachin Shigwan Sir (The Solar Man of India) and the team of Green India Initiative Private Limited decided to develop the village by installing a 7.5 HP Solar Water Pump System,  Solar Street Lights, Solar Off-grid  Systems, and Water Filteration Unit. The bad connectivity of the road and solar material transport to the village was the main challenge in front of Team GIIPL. For the safe shifting of the material, residents shifted the heavy material by bullock cart, and villagers grabbed the solar panel on the head, which weighs 22kg, and climbed 5km from the base village. In such a way material, have been shifted safely to the kalakrai village. With the guidance of Mr. Sachin Shigwan (The Solar Man of India), GIIPL’s team installed a 7.5 HP solar submersible pump to ensure that villagers get water at their doorstep and can cultivate crops twice a year. In the evening, the village will be illuminated, by 10 Solar street lights, a solar off-grid system for the school and Anganwadi to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, and a clean drinking water system for the villagers. In such a manner Green India Initiative Private Limited and Mr. Sachin Shigwan (The Solar Man of India) have developed the kalakrai village into a better place for the villagers. Hereafter solar energy system has not only benefited the people of the village but also 13.13 tons per year of CO2 in the environment has been reduced because of this solar energy system. A vision like this of developing rural projects has empowered Green India Initiative Private Limited to develop 470+ townlets in PAN India, moving closer to its mission of developing 1000 villages by 2025.
