Dr. Priyanka Kamble a girl who was born in the slum of Mumbai near international airport, God was not very kind to her. As she was short in height and due to some defect in her legs which became a reason for others to make fun of her in her during her childhood.
She decided to show the world that she can make a difference in every deprived woman’s life. When she first visited a tribal belt in shahapur she observed that sanitary pads was a luxury here and these women are using very crude and unhygienic method during their menstrual periods. From the year 2017 she started taking session in this tribal belt. At the start it was very hard because the women were unapproachable, but she did not give up and continued her humanitarian work for years in these tribal belt. She completed more than 1000 menstrual hygiene sessions. With the help of many donors and kind hearted people; she till date has distributed more than 12 lakh sanitary pads to needy women’s. Her work has been acknowledged by World Human Rights Council and she was awarded honorary doctorate for her excellent work in menstrual awareness in 2020. She is the youngest honorary doctorate in Maharashtra.
She is the first woman to receive the award of Best Social Achiever 2022 by SAARC nations in Nepal, Kathmandu. She even received Asia Pride 2021 award and a very well deserved Nelson Mandela global excellence award.
She has got opportunity to represent India at international model United nation conference 2023 in Vietnam Hanoi. She presented two paper one on Gender equality and another on abortion a right of every woman. Her paper was acclaimed by other dignitaries and she felt proud that she was able to raise the voice of more than 85% women who live in village tribal belts and in slums who don’t have the voice which can speak for themselves.
She was one of the youngest candidate in that conference.
During the conference she raised the voice of deprived woman. She insisted in her speech to other delegate during her address the issues faced by women during menstrual periods. The rituals different kind of myths which are there in the rural area where she work which are reason for women’s suppression.
She insisted that as food is every human’s basic necessity, for every women it is top most priority that they should get an opportunity to have clean and hygienic menstrual periods.
The Western world and urban people always talk about degradable eco-friendly sanitary napkins but till date there are more than 60% women who are still not having access to basic sanitary pad and are forced to use dirty clothes and such kind of make shift arrangement during menstrual periods.
When asked about her future plans she said that this is not the end of it. She is not going to stop because she will be happy once her campaign “Being Women” where she ask for free sanitary napkins to every needy women is accomplished. She quoted “Every woman has the right to have clean, safe and hygienic menstrual periods.”
