Absynthe Design: Steampunk fashion brand mixing the old with the new

Steampunk fashion is an art form. It is heavily influenced and inspired by the Victorian era. The breakthroughs in science and the subsequent Industrial Revolution that shaped the modern world, fascinates this genre of fashion. Particularly, how steam was considered to drive technological development. Hence the term Steampunk.

Absynthe Designs, by Abhishek Basak, takes the concept to a new level. The artwork uses components from vintage machines and instruments. Be it cogwheels, springs, watch dials etc. The artwork reflects a story. A befitting approach to blur the lines between a bygone era and the current one. Poetically, it can be said that the vintage components are re-living to re-tell a composite story.

Abhishek Basak, is an alumnus of NIFT, Hyderabad. As an artist and an avid reader, his source for creative inspirations have no bounds. Specifically, his range for creative thinking can go from mythology to nature (including the abstract as is with any artist). This is reflected in all his art pieces. However, the most intricate and overwhelming are his take on a coffee machine made using a defunct sewing machine and the pièce de résistance, a fully functional mini forest in a cabinet having climate control and live plants!

Absynthe Designs is a brand that justifies its name. Absinthism, was a phenomenon, during the Victorian era, where absinthe spirit was believed to induce insanity. The designs and artwork hand crafted by Abhishek are insane, to say the least. His unique, abstractly creative approach to art and talent with tools is worth the experience and is something that makes you want to see more of it.
