30th August 2023 was marked by a remarkable and truly August ceremony when members of Rotary Club of Calcutta Renaissance, Rotary Club of Calcutta Centenary and Rotary Club of Calcutta Uniworld City (headed by Presidents Rtn. Rupa Majumder, Rtn. Amitava Banerjee and Rtn. Madhu Arora respectively) organised a warm and beautiful Raksha Bandhan event at Command Hospital (Eastern Command), Kolkata of Indian Army. The female members of all the three clubs tied rakhee to Maj. Vijay and other officials. It was indeed a heartwarming and gala event.
Bengal has an age old tradition of celebrating the festival of Rakhee since the time of Rabindranath Tagore when the bard introduced ‘Rakhee Bandhan’ in 1905 (Banga Bhanga Andolan) as a symbol of fraternity. Rotarians adhere to that temperament and 30th August 2023 bears testimony to that aura of warmth, love, compassion and fraternity.
